Split a PDF Without Sending It

Splitting is the reverse of a pack. You have one PDF and you need pages 1 to 12 for one recipient and pages 40 to 52 for another, or you need every page as its own file. Doing that by sending the whole document to a website shares pages the second recipient was never meant to see. The split tool reads one PDF in the browser and writes the extracts on your device.

Ranges

Type a list such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Numbers start at 1 and match the list on screen. A single range downloads one PDF. Several ranges download a ZIP. Every page as its own PDF also downloads a ZIP, unless the file has only one page. Open the ZIP locally. The names inside are generic page labels, not a second copy of a sensitive file name in every entry beyond the name you chose for the ZIP itself.

You can turn a page before you split, so a sideways scan is upright in the extract. You cannot reorder in the split tool. If the order is wrong, use reorder or the pack builder first, then split the result. If you need the extract to sit inside a numbered pack, split first or stamp after. Stamping and then deleting pages will leave a gap in the sequence unless you stamp again.

Large files

A phone may refuse a very large PDF. That message is a memory limit, not a request to pay. Try a smaller range, or use a laptop. Cancel works if you start a long split and change your mind. The page stays usable. Damaged and password-protected files are refused with a plain sentence. Unlock a password on your device. There is no service that receives the file to unlock it.

The proof panel should stay at zero requests while the ZIP is built. The same network-tab check described in the merge guide applies. When you do need to send an extract, send only that extract, through the channel the recipient already uses.

Check the file before you send it

Download the pack and open it on the same device. Read the cover, the contents page, and the first page of each section. Confirm the stamped numbers match the contents. Open the CSV beside it if a colleague needs the index in a spreadsheet. Only then send the pack by the route your process already uses: the company portal, the client’s secure room, or the email address in the instructions. Sending it there is a choice. Assembling it did not require a copy on someone else’s server.

If the proof panel lists a network request while the pack is built, stop and treat that as a fault. The expected count is zero. You can also switch the network off after the page has loaded and run the same steps. The worker does not need a connection to stamp numbers or write bookmarks.

InHousePDF is not a professional adviser and is not affiliated with a regulator or a professional body. The same buttons can prepare documents for a review, an audit, a submission, or a handover. The product does not decide which papers a process requires. You still follow the instructions you were given.

Naming the result

Choose the ZIP or PDF name before you download so the extract is not called split.pdf in a folder of ten matters. Inside a multi-file ZIP the parts are named by page range. Rename them on your device after you unpack if a colleague needs “pricing.pdf” rather than “pages-1-12.pdf”. That rename is local. It does not go through the site.

If you split in order to meet a portal limit, note in your covering message which ranges you sent. The person receiving them cannot see the pages you left out. That is often the point. It is also how a required page gets forgotten, so check the range against the contents of the master pack before you send.
